Digital Dumpsites' Study Highlights Growing Threat To Children: UN Health Agency
Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)- Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus- stated that a health threat arising from digital dumpsites is growing when it is considered that numerous e-waste is illegally shipped to middle-income countries where many workers including children and adolescents are dismantling several toxic metals by using acid baths.
Marie-Noel Brune Drisse- WHO author- emphasized that effects of e-waste may especially have a destructive health effect on children. Maria Neira -WHO Director of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health- also emphasized that the health sector may play a critical role by providing leadership, encouraging researches and influencing policy-makers in terms of preventing e-waste risks.
