The "Initiative for the Safe Transportation of Grain and Food Products from Ukrainian Ports” was signed by the UN, Türkiye, Ukraine and Russia on July 22, 2022 in Istanbul.
Together with the war between Russia and Ukraine, important problems have emerged in the grain supply chain and this has led to an increase in global food prices. Stating that the agreement is a beacon of hope regarding these ongoing problems, UN Secretary General Guterres mentioned that due to this agreement, global food prices will be balanced and the grain in the ports of Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny will be delivered to world markets.
In addition, within the scope of the agreement, it was decided to establish a coordination center in Istanbul for the purpose of planning and inspection as well as providing a safe passage corridor in the Black Sea.
The opening of the Joint Coordination Center will be held in Istanbul on July 29, 2022.
