In recent years, International Women's Day has become a platform for women's rights movements around the world to make their voices heard and to push for change. In 2023, the theme for International Women's Day is DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.
One significant event that took place on International Women's Day 2021 was the launch of the UN Women's Generation Equality campaign, which aims to accelerate gender equality by 2030. The campaign focuses on six areas: gender-based violence, economic justice and rights, bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights, feminist action for climate justice, technology and innovation for gender equality, and feminist movements and leadership.
Another notable event on International Women's Day 2021 was the Women's Strike, a global movement that calls for women to go on strike from paid and unpaid labor to draw attention to the ongoing struggle for gender equality. The strike, which has taken place on International Women's Day in previous years as well, aims to show the economic and social power of women and to push for change in areas such as pay equity, reproductive rights, and access to healthcare.
On this day, people come together to celebrate the achievements of women in fields such as science, politics, literature, and the arts. It is also a time to acknowledge the ongoing struggles faced by women around the world, including discrimination, poverty, and violence. By coming together and continuing to advocate for change, we can create a more just and equitable world for all.
Happy International Women's Day!
