Security Council Upholds Role of Multilateralism in a Complex World
Volkan Bozkir- the General Assembly President of the UN- highlighted the importance of multilateralism in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and stressed that the pandemic should not be regarded as a zero-sum game. He also criticized that developing countries have so far received just a few percent of all vaccines all around the world.
On the other hand, Chinese’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, highlighted the importance of global cooperation and also called for the United Nations to give importance on climate change, health issues and counter-terrorism. Antony Blinken -the United States Secretary of State- confirmed US commitment to cooperate with all states to struggle with “complex problems” such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change. Sergei Lavrov- Russian Foreign Minister- emphasized the importance of respecting sovereignty and assuring non-interference in internal relations.
